March 8, 2024: Millsburg, Liberia, in celebration of International Women\u2019s Day 2024, the Faith and Justice Network organized a roundtable symposium titled Gender Talks, bringing together 40 women and men from churches from the City of Arithington and the Township of Millsburg
at Millsburg Public School. \u201cInvest in Women: Accelerate Progress,\u201d the event aimed to address pressing issues affecting women’s rights and gender equality in Liberia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The symposium began with an inspiring welcome speech by Hon. Gordon L. Cisco, Commissioner, Township of Millsburg, emphasized the importance of investing in women to drive progress and achieve gender equality. Reverend Dr. Tolbert Thomas Jallah, Jr. Regional
Executive Director of the Faith and Justice Network in his opening remarks said that this year, our theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” calls us to action. He called on participants to reflect on the sacrifices and triumphs of women throughout history, and reminded them of the
power and potential that women hold within themselves. He urged attendees to \u201cchallenge societal norms and biases that perpetuate gender inequality and hinder women’s empowerment\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Throughout the day-long event, participants engaged in thoughtful discussions and workshops focusing on various topics, including abusive relationships, domestic violence, sexual gender- based violence, and early child marriage. Facilitators led interactive sessions, encouraging
participants to share their experiences, challenges, and strategies for creating positive change within their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the highlights of the Gender Talks symposium was a panel discussion featuring survivors of gender-based violence who courageously shared their stories and advocated for greater support and resources for survivors. The panelists emphasized the importance of breaking the
silence surrounding abuse and called for increased awareness and intervention efforts to end violence against women and girls in Liberia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the symposium drew to a close, participants pledged to take action in their communities to promote gender equality, support survivors of gender-based violence, and advocate for policies that empower women and girls. The event concluded with a powerful call to action, symbolized
by the hashtag #InspireInclusion, as attendees committed to working together to create a more just and equitable society for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Gender Talks symposium organized by the Faith and Justice Network served as a poignant reminder of the importance of International Women\u2019s Day and the ongoing struggle for women\u2019s rights and gender equality worldwide. By investing in women and accelerating progress,
