Hundreds Behind Bar Without Trial Living With Chicken pox and Hepatitis B &C Outbreak, No GoL Intervention, FJN Finds Out.

The Faith and Justice Network, Mission For Justice Tour, Human Rights Monitors begun Prison Monitoring Program finding out shocking happenings and conditions.

The team discovered 693 persons behind bars without trial at five prisons facilities.

The Human Rights Monitors visited the Buchana and Bondiway Central Prisons in Grand Bassa and Margibi counties, others facilities visited are Kakata Central Prison, Gbarnga Central Prison and Sanniquellie Central Prison in Margibi, Bong and Nimba counties respectively.

The rights of these Liberians have been violated by the court and court actors, including Magistrates, Judges and as well as the Ministry of Justice.

At the Sanniquellie Central Prisoners, some prisoners are living in the midst of Chicken Pox and Hepatitis B & C for about two to three weeks , yet GoL has not acted on this alarming situation.

Hundreds are sleeping in bathrooms in almost all of the facilities visited due to over crowdedness and they only eat once a day.

It just unfortunate that Liberia as a country cannot provide electricity for the Gbarnga Central Prison and over 302 person sleeps in the dark every day.

Our team finds out that over 30 % percent of the pre-trail detainees have stayed over one year at prisons facilities in the five counties which violates the Liberian Law.

Pre trail_detainess are to stayed about three terms of court behind bars, but some have even stayed over one thousand days in prison awaiting court trail.
