Monrovia, Liberia-August 15,2024: The Board of Directors of the Faith and Justice Network(FJN) issues this statement to the Liberian government and all citizens ,emphasizing the critical role that audits play in promoting good governance and the effective management of the state resources.

Recent public discourse has revealed a troubling trend of audits being perceived and often mischaracterized as witch -hunts.’’ The FJN joins all non -state actors dispel this misconception and reinforce the importance of audits in building a transparent, accountable, and just society.

We believe it is imperative to clarify the role of audits in fostering good governance and protecting the integrity of the state recourses.

We the people of faith, do not see the audits as tools of perception or political vendetta. They are not instruments of political persecution or retribution. Rather, they are critical mechanisms designed to assess and improved the efficiency, effectiveness, and   economy of government operations.

They serve as vital tools to evaluate how public resources are allocated and used, ensuring that they benefit all citizens equitably. Through audits, weaknesses in financial management, procurement process, and service delivery can be identified and rectified thereby preventing corruption, waste and inefficiency. Therefore, they should be conducted impartially and professionally to provide valuable insights that help identify areas where public resources can be managed, thereby enhancing service delivery and promoting sustainable development.

The Faith and Justice Network believes that the strength of a nation is measured not just by the wealth of its resources, but by the integrity with which those resources are managed. In this light, audits should be seen as an opportunity for government institutions to demonstrate their commitment to ethical practices and to earning the trust of the Liberian people. We are called to view audits as opportunities for growth and improvement rather than as throats. Moreover, we encourage citizens to view audits as positive and necessary process that contributes to the overall well-being of the nation and a more prosperous Liberia.

We call on all people of faith, public officials, civic servants, and citizens to support the audit process. We call on the Liberian government to support and uphold the independence of the auditing institutions, providing them with the resources and authority to carry out their mandates without interference or bias.

The independence and integrity of the auditing bodies must be upheld to ensure that their findings are credible and their recommendations are implemented.

This will not only enhance public trust but also ensure that Liberia’s resources are used for the benefit of all its people.

Fellow citizens, by embracing audits, Liberia can take significant strides toward achieving greater accountability, transparency, and sustainable development. The Faith and Justice Network remains committed to advocating for good governance and will continue to  support initiatives that foster integrity and justice in the management of our nation’s resources .
